Exotic Thai Food

Thailand is known to have some of the weirdest food in town from crickets, worms, frogs, beetles, caterpillars, scorpions and ants. This food is not for the faint hearted you must really be willing to try it out. In Thailand, different region have different variations of their food and these exotic foods are sometimes more abundant in one region than the other region. However, in Bangkok there are many people who sell this kind of food due to the proximity of Bangkok to foreign travellers.

The location of these exotic foods are everywhere in Bangkok since they are usually sold in bug carts by vendor. But, the most famous location where there are many sellers of this is Khao San Road, since this is populated by foreign travellers. Usually these exotic foods are fried and seasoned with salt, pepper and chilli. Here are some of the food sold in bug carts:

• Black scorpion – be careful in eating this kind of insect because it might sting you. The taste of black scorpion is flavourless as what a traveller describe in his blog.

• Big grasshopper – before you eat you must remove the head, wings, insides and legs. Its taste is grassy, crunchy and tasty

• Malengdaa water bug – this insect looks like a cockroach and could be a scary thing to eat for some people. This is also used as an ingredient of chilli paste.

• Maggots – the taste of maggots varies like almonds and some is sweet and juicy.

• Crickets – this is crunchy and as a tourist eater once describe like potato chips.

There are many varieties of insect sold in the street of Bangkok so just watch out for those bug carts and taste their exotic delicacies. But remember this bug carts usually arrived at odd hours so you need to watch constantly for them if you like to taste this food.
